Premier Williams says that the people of Newfoundland & Labrador have been betrayed by Prime Stephen Harper. Premier Williams is now calling on voters to say no to the Conseratives by not voting Conserative in the next Federal Election. According to Premier Williams, Prime Minister Harper did not keep a written committment that would see his province that would see all revenues from natural resources excluded from the equalization formula. This means that the province now stand to loose billions of dollars during the life of the Atlantic Accord.
All Newfoundland & Labradorians feel betrayed by the Harper Government. The rest of Canada should be made aware of Harper's broken promise and that Harper may well not keep promises from this Budget should his party be elected again. Stephen Harper seems more interested in gaining votes in Quebec and Ontario while turning his back on Newfoundland & Labrador.
In listening to local news and talking to my buddies, there is support for Premier Williams to do a speaking tour across the country to let people know that Stephen Harper cannot be trusted to keep his word. I guess one way to send a strong message to Harper would be not to vote Conserative. Then there is the question of who can you vote for. We don't want to see the Liberals back (besides, Dion is on record of not supporting the province's position) and the NDP have never done very well here and now, the Conservatives want to maintain Newfoundland & Labrador as a welfare state. The only party left is the Green Party. Perhaps Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party would consider setting up shop in Newfoundland & Labrador and with some help from our Premier, win a seat in Ottawa. I am sure that Stephen Harper would rather have to deal with the devil than Ms. May who would make sure that he carries through on his promises to protect the environment.
As a Newfoundland & Labradorian, our choices seem to be few. Of course, we could all move to Alberta and get rich. Or, we could start up the Newfoundland & Labrador Party and separate from Canada or,as Harper seems to like Quebec so well and we have a "unique" culture, we could join the Quebec Nation.
I hope that Newfoundland & Labradorians across the country will support Premier Williams and let the Conserative Party no that they will not be voting Conserative. Let us all stand up and say NO to the Harper Government.
