Perhaps I've stayed up too late tonight, listening to the election results.
Perhaps my ever-increasing span of years has made me far more cynical.
But.
I do really, really wonder what is going on with democracy within the UK right now.
Firstly, what is democracy anyway?
Oh yeah, its queuing up for hours to be told you cannot vote.

WTF?
Sure, if you turn up too late you lose your right to vote but thousands of people got to the polling stations hours before they were due to ...

Well Darlings,
The time is fast approaching. Christmas. Peace on Earth and Goodwill to All Men. Perhaps I should broaden my circles, as it seems far from that wherever I go. We see our pensioners going without food and turning off their heating in order to pay their council tax. A tax that one in four of them has difficulty in paying. Help the Aged are campaigning for the government to reinstate the £200 discount for pensioners to help them at this time of year. I guess they must have more ...

The United States and Britain did not support Israel in the 1948 War of Independence. The Soviet Union did, for a reason. Stalin remembered the huge role Russian Jews played in establishing the Soviet regime, and was sure they would build a socialist state in the Middle East.
The Exile made the Jews afraid of the mob; they long for stronger state. Jews are smart and opinionated, and many want the power. Monarchies reserve the first roles for hereditary rulers. Democracies do not elect the Jews, ...

The other day it occurred to me that during Ronald Reagan's run for the Presidency he created a "Misery Index". This index represented a total of the rate of inflation, plus the prime rate, as an indicator of how the American people felt about how they were doing. No one has suggested resurrecting this index in recent years. My thought was to create a "Happiness Index". How happy are you with the leadership of the country. The problem is that other than taking an outright poll, how do you ...

The Labour Government is no longer trusted with the National Health Service (NHS) because the public believe that it has wasted money since 1997.A recent poll has shown that only one in five voters have seen any improvement in the National Health Service despite a doubling of budgets,It just goes to show that throwing money at a black hole is not an effective way of improving service in an efficient way.Of the people polled over 65% believed that evening and or week end cover ...

(EMediaWire) Charlotte, NC (July 22, 2010):With the numerous lenders available both online and in brick-and-mortar buildings, it is not difficult to get an
auto loan as it used to be. There are many options available regardless of your credit history or even if you do not have established credit. Why should you obtain an auto loan? It is standard procedure for your bank or lending institution to check your credit history for any red flags. It can be a problem for a person with no history of ...

Do you feel confused, lied to buy your Government leaders? Certainly the results of the recent American election were not exactly a ringing endorsement for President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall in the Oval Office when President Bush and Vice President Cheney are having a few beers and their inhibitions are down from the alcohol like Mel Gibson a few months ago ranting about the Jews and Michael Richards recently ranting about the black people? If ...

Your daughter or the significant little girl in your life, the same one who used to dump strained peas on her head and drop toys in the toilet, is growing up, and, believe it or not, will soon be choosing her own haircuts and picking out her own outfits, not to mention dating, driving, working, and voting. Thanks to easy media access, little girls today are much more fashion conscious than their mothers were, and even if your teen or pre teen is a camo pants wearing, mud ...

Since the election, I have listened to many callers to the C-Span call-in lines, saying how they would be leaving the Republican party, to become independents. At first I was shocked to hear this, since it seemed to me, to be a new development.
What was so shocking to me was that I have had the same thoughts and inclinations. Since I have always been a Republican, this was a new though process for me. It was amazing to me to hear so many Republicans having the same thoughts and being willing to ...

In the past women were in many ways thought of as being inferior to men. The typical lifestyle among families was for women to stay at home while men worked, and this was the accepted way of life for both parties. Although certain generalisations still exist much of this has changed, especially over the last hundred years. A decade ago women there thought so inferior that they were not even allowed to vote. Early in the twentieth century things began to change though. Many protests took place ...

On the 36th day after they had voted, Americans finally learned on Wednesday who would be their next president: Governor .George W. Bush of Texas. Vice President Al Gore, his last realistic avenue for legal challenge closed by a U. S. Supreme Court decision late Tuesday, planned to end the contest formally in a televised evening speech of perhaps 10 minutes, advisers said. They said that Senator Joseph Lieberman, his vice presidential running mate, would first make brief comments. ...
